Job Description:
Exoben is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mining Engineer to join our team. As a Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing sustainable resource extraction techniques for lithium and sodium deposits. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that mining operations are efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible. Your role will focus on optimizing extraction processes, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and sustainability goals. This position is critical to Exoben’s mission of advancing sustainable energy solutions through responsible resource management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mine Planning & Design: Design and develop comprehensive mine plans for the sustainable extraction of lithium and sodium deposits, including open-pit and underground mining methods. Ensure that all designs meet operational, safety, and environmental standards.
- Resource Extraction Techniques: Implement innovative and efficient extraction techniques that maximize resource recovery while minimizing environmental disturbance and waste generation.
- Sustainability Focus: Develop and apply sustainable mining practices that reduce the environmental footprint of extraction operations, including water conservation, land rehabilitation, and waste management strategies.
- Optimization of Mining Operations: Continuously assess and improve mining operations to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve resource recovery rates while adhering to sustainability goals.
- Environmental Impact Mitigation: Collaborate with environmental engineers and scientists to minimize the environmental impact of mining activities, including dust suppression, water management, habitat preservation, and ecosystem protection.
- Compliance with Regulations: Ensure that all mining activities comply with local, national, and international regulations related to environmental protection, safety, and resource management. Prepare and submit necessary permits and reports to regulatory agencies.
- Project Management: Lead and oversee mining projects from concept to completion, managing timelines, budgets, and resources while ensuring that project milestones and objectives are met.
- Mining Equipment & Technology: Evaluate and recommend advanced mining equipment and technologies that enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Implement automation, robotics, and real-time monitoring systems where applicable.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Use data-driven approaches to monitor mining performance, analyze extraction metrics, and provide reports on resource recovery, operational efficiency, and environmental impact.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with geologists, metallurgists, environmental scientists, and other engineers to integrate sustainable mining practices into the entire lifecycle of the resource extraction process.
- Risk Management & Safety: Identify and mitigate potential risks in mining operations, ensuring that safety protocols are followed and that employees work in a safe and secure environment.
- Land Rehabilitation & Restoration: Develop and oversee plans for the reclamation and rehabilitation of mined land, ensuring that ecosystems are restored, and land can be repurposed for sustainable uses post-mining.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in mining engineering, with a strong focus on resource extraction, particularly in lithium or sodium mining, or similar critical minerals.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mining methods, resource extraction techniques, and mine design principles. Proficiency in using mining software for planning and simulation (e.g., Surpac, MineSight, or similar tools).
- Sustainability Focus: Demonstrated experience in implementing sustainable mining practices, with a strong understanding of environmental regulations, land rehabilitation, and responsible resource management.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage large-scale mining projects, including budget management, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Collaboration Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, and production staff.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess mining operations, identify inefficiencies, and implement solutions to optimize resource extraction.
- Safety & Compliance Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in mining, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master’s or PhD in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field with a focus on sustainable resource extraction.
- Industry Expertise: Significant experience in lithium or sodium mining, particularly in the design and implementation of sustainable extraction practices.
- Certifications: Professional certification in mining engineering (e.g., PE certification or equivalent).
- Software Proficiency: Experience with advanced mining simulation, planning, and automation tools, including real-time monitoring systems for mining operations.
- Environmental & Sustainability Focus: A demonstrated commitment to sustainability, with experience in land rehabilitation, water management, and reducing the environmental impact of mining operations.
