Job Description:
Exoben is seeking an experienced and skilled Industrial Chemist to join our Research and Development (R&D) team. The Industrial Chemist will play a crucial role in designing and optimizing the chemical reactions and processes used in the purification and recovery of lithium and sodium from natural resources. The successful candidate will focus on understanding and improving reaction pathways, refining methods, and developing scalable solutions for industrial applications. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the efficiency, sustainability, and scalability of Exoben’s chemical processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Chemical Reaction Design & Optimization: Develop and optimize chemical reaction pathways for the purification and recovery of lithium and sodium, ensuring maximum efficiency, yield, and purity.
- Process Development: Work closely with process engineers to design industrial-scale chemical processes that can be scaled up from laboratory experiments to full-scale production, focusing on sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
- Synthesis of Compounds: Develop and synthesize chemical compounds used in extraction and refining processes, ensuring compatibility with large-scale production requirements.
- Purification Techniques: Investigate and refine purification techniques for removing impurities from lithium and sodium extraction, including precipitation, crystallization, and solvent extraction methods.
- Chemical Analysis: Conduct comprehensive chemical analyses to monitor reaction progress, identify bottlenecks, and ensure the quality of the end products. Utilize techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and titration.
- Research & Innovation: Drive research projects aimed at discovering new chemical pathways, reagents, or catalysts that can improve the efficiency and environmental impact of lithium and sodium refining.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Focus on developing eco-friendly, sustainable chemical processes that reduce emissions, waste, and energy consumption during purification and recovery.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with engineers, materials scientists, and environmental specialists to integrate chemical processes into broader production systems and ensure alignment with corporate sustainability goals.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including reaction mechanisms, experimental protocols, and process specifications. Present findings and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all chemical processes comply with local, national, and international environmental and safety regulations. Develop processes that minimize the use of hazardous materials and optimize waste disposal.
- Continuous Improvement: Analyze current chemical processes and propose improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and sustainability, while reducing costs and environmental impact.
- Quality Control: Establish quality control standards for all chemical reactions and compounds produced in the refining process, ensuring consistency and reliability in the production environment.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on industrial chemistry.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in chemical process development, preferably in an industrial setting involving metal extraction, refining, or related chemical processes.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of chemical reaction mechanisms, compound synthesis, and purification techniques, particularly related to lithium, sodium, or other metal refining processes.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in chemical analysis techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy (e.g., NMR, IR), and other methods for analyzing reaction efficiency, product purity, and compound structure.
- Process Scale-Up Experience: Demonstrated experience in scaling chemical reactions from laboratory experiments to industrial-scale production, including process optimization for sustainability and cost efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance: Knowledge of environmental regulations, safety protocols, and best practices in handling chemicals in an industrial environment.
- Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex chemical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex chemical reactions and develop innovative solutions for process challenges.
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master’s or PhD in Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on applied chemistry in an industrial context.
- Industry Expertise: Experience in the mining, chemical manufacturing, or energy storage industries, with a focus on lithium or sodium refining.
- Catalysis & Green Chemistry: Expertise in catalysis, green chemistry, and sustainable chemical engineering practices.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with chemical process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD) for modeling reaction pathways and optimizing processes.
- Sustainability Focus: A strong commitment to sustainability, with experience in developing chemical processes that minimize environmental impact, waste, and energy consumption.
