Job Description:
We are seeking highly skilled Geochemists to lead the analysis and interpretation of geological samples to assist in the identification of gold deposits and other valuable minerals. In this role, you will analyze soil, rock, and water samples to determine the concentration of gold and other elements. You will work closely with geologists, mining engineers, and environmental scientists to pinpoint the most productive areas for exploration and mining, ensuring that resource extraction is efficient and sustainable. Your expertise in geochemistry will be crucial for guiding exploration strategies and optimizing mineral recovery.
This senior technical role requires in-depth knowledge of geochemical sampling, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation, as well as experience in the context of mineral exploration and mining.
Key Responsibilities:
- Geochemical Sampling and Analysis: Plan and conduct field sampling campaigns to collect soil, rock, and water samples from potential mining sites. Ensure that samples are collected in accordance with best practices to provide accurate and representative geochemical data.
- Laboratory Analysis: Use advanced laboratory techniques, including mass spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), to analyze the chemical composition of collected samples. Determine the concentration of gold, trace metals, and other valuable elements.
- Data Interpretation: Analyze geochemical data to identify patterns and anomalies that indicate the presence of gold and other valuable minerals. Use this information to guide exploration teams and direct drilling operations to the most promising areas.
- Geochemical Mapping: Develop detailed geochemical maps that show the spatial distribution of gold concentrations and other elements within the project area. Use these maps to inform exploration and mining strategies.
- Collaborate with Geologists: Work closely with geologists and mining engineers to integrate geochemical data with geological and geophysical data. Provide comprehensive reports that help optimize mining operations and ensure accurate targeting of mineral resources.
- Water and Soil Quality Assessment: Conduct water and soil quality assessments to evaluate the environmental impact of mining operations. Ensure that mining activities comply with environmental regulations by monitoring the concentrations of harmful elements in surrounding ecosystems.
- Exploration Targeting: Use geochemical indicators to pinpoint areas with high mineral potential, guiding exploration teams toward the most productive regions. Assist in the development of drilling and excavation plans that maximize resource recovery.
- Environmental Monitoring: Contribute to environmental monitoring programs by analyzing the geochemical composition of water and soil samples before, during, and after mining activities. Ensure that the mining site is environmentally sustainable and minimize potential impacts on nearby ecosystems.
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate the chemical composition of rocks and soils to identify any potential geochemical hazards, such as acid mine drainage or contamination from heavy metals. Work with environmental scientists to develop mitigation strategies for minimizing these risks.
- Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate with geologists, environmental scientists, mining engineers, and project managers to ensure that geochemical data is effectively integrated into mining operations. Contribute to the planning and development of exploration strategies that optimize resource extraction.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports summarizing geochemical findings, including maps, charts, and statistical analyses. Ensure that all geochemical data is accurately documented and presented to internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and environmental agencies.
- Innovative Techniques and Technologies: Stay informed about the latest advancements in geochemical analysis techniques, software, and equipment. Integrate new technologies into exploration efforts to improve the efficiency and accuracy of geochemical investigations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all geochemical exploration activities comply with local, national, and international regulations, particularly regarding environmental monitoring and reporting. Obtain necessary permits and approvals for conducting geochemical surveys in various regions.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide training and mentorship to junior geochemists and field technicians, ensuring they develop the skills necessary for accurate geochemical sampling, analysis, and interpretation.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Geochemistry, Earth Sciences, Geology, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD in Geochemistry or a related discipline is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in geochemical exploration, with a strong focus on mineral exploration and resource detection. Proven experience conducting geochemical surveys for gold or other precious metals is essential.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in geochemical sampling techniques, laboratory analysis methods (mass spectrometry, XRF, AAS), and geochemical data interpretation. Familiarity with geochemical modeling software such as GeoChem, ioGAS, or similar tools.
- Fieldwork Experience: Experience conducting geochemical sampling in diverse and remote field environments. Ability to manage field teams and ensure accurate data collection.
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master’s or PhD in Geochemistry, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in geochemistry or mineral exploration, such as Certified Professional Geochemist (CPG) or equivalent.
- Industry Experience: Extensive experience in geochemical analysis for gold mining projects, including large-scale commercial mining operations.
What We Offer:
- Competitive Compensation: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and performance-based bonuses.
- Career Development: Opportunities for professional growth and career advancement in a dynamic and innovative field. Access to state-of-the-art geochemical analysis technologies and ongoing training.
- Impactful Work: Be part of a team that is driving the future of resource extraction by applying cutting-edge geochemical techniques to identify and optimize gold deposits.
- Collaborative Environment: Work in a multidisciplinary team that values creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Engage with top-tier talent across geology, engineering, and environmental science teams.
- Work-Life Balance: We support a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements where applicable.
