Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing rigorous quality control procedures to ensure that Exoben’s battery systems meet stringent safety, reliability, and performance standards. You will lead testing, validation, and inspection activities across various stages of the product lifecycle, from prototype development through to large-scale manufacturing. Your work will help guarantee that our batteries perform consistently under a range of conditions and are safe for use in demanding applications such as EVs and energy storage systems.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work on the cutting edge of battery technology, ensuring that Exoben’s products maintain a standard of excellence that our customers can trust.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Control System Development: Design and implement quality assurance procedures and protocols that cover the entire battery development process, from raw material inspection to final product validation. Ensure that quality control systems are optimized for efficiency and accuracy.
- Testing and Validation: Conduct rigorous testing and validation procedures on battery cells, modules, and packs to assess performance, safety, and reliability. Lead the development of test plans, including functional, environmental, thermal, and stress tests, to simulate real-world operating conditions.
- Safety and Compliance Testing: Ensure that all battery systems meet or exceed global safety standards, including those set by ISO, IEC, UL, and other regulatory bodies. Lead testing initiatives focused on safety-critical aspects such as thermal runaway prevention, overcharge protection, and impact resistance.
- Failure Mode Analysis: Perform failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) on battery components and systems to identify potential risks and areas of improvement. Investigate the root causes of failures and work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.
- Process Audits and Continuous Improvement: Conduct regular process audits of manufacturing operations, identifying inefficiencies or deviations from quality standards. Work with production teams to continuously improve manufacturing processes, reducing defects and increasing product consistency.
- Data-Driven Quality Monitoring: Implement data-driven monitoring systems that track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to product quality. Use statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies to analyze trends, detect anomalies, and implement corrective actions.
- Supplier Quality Management: Work with suppliers to ensure that all raw materials and components meet Exoben’s quality standards. Conduct supplier audits, review certifications, and develop long-term quality improvement strategies with external partners.
- Battery Performance Metrics: Develop and maintain comprehensive metrics to evaluate the performance of battery systems over their lifecycle, including charge/discharge efficiency, cycle life, energy density, and degradation rates. Use these metrics to validate the long-term reliability of the products.
- Environmental and Thermal Testing: Lead testing initiatives that simulate extreme environmental conditions, including temperature variations, humidity, vibration, and impact. Ensure that battery systems maintain performance across a wide range of operational scenarios.
- Regulatory and Certification Support: Support the regulatory and certification processes for battery systems, ensuring that all products comply with relevant industry and environmental standards. Prepare documentation for third-party testing and certification.
- Product Lifecycle Management: Oversee the quality assurance process throughout the entire product lifecycle, from prototype validation to mass production. Ensure that quality control measures are consistently applied as products scale up to commercial production.
- Customer Feedback and Field Testing: Collaborate with field engineers and customer service teams to gather feedback on product performance in real-world applications. Analyze data from field tests and warranty claims to identify quality issues and implement improvements.
- Collaboration with R&D and Manufacturing Teams: Work closely with R&D engineers during the product development phase to establish clear quality benchmarks. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure that quality standards are met during production, addressing any issues that arise.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all quality assurance procedures, testing protocols, and test results. Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings and recommendations for improvements. Communicate results to internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on quality control, testing, and validation. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in quality assurance, testing, and validation, particularly in the energy storage or battery manufacturing industry. Experience in ensuring compliance with industry standards and conducting rigorous testing is highly desirable.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, including Six Sigma, statistical process control (SPC), and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). Familiarity with battery testing standards such as IEC 62660, ISO 26262, and UL 1642 is preferred.
- Battery System Knowledge: Solid understanding of lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery systems, including the key metrics used to evaluate battery performance, reliability, and safety.
- Testing and Validation Expertise: Proven experience in designing and executing testing protocols for battery systems or other energy storage devices. Familiarity with environmental, thermal, and electrical testing techniques.
- Regulatory Compliance: Strong knowledge of industry regulations and safety standards related to batteries and energy storage systems. Experience in working with regulatory bodies to achieve certifications and product approvals.
- Data Analysis and Problem Solving: Expertise in using data analysis tools to monitor quality metrics, detect trends, and implement corrective actions. Proficiency in using software tools such as Minitab, JMP, or similar platforms for statistical analysis.
- Process Improvement: Experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing settings, with a focus on increasing product quality, reducing defects, and optimizing production efficiency.
- Collaboration and Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and present complex quality assurance information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Project Management: Experience in managing quality assurance projects, including coordinating cross-functional teams, setting timelines, and delivering results on schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
