Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our production and engineering teams. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for large-scale battery assembly, with a focus on automation and robotics to enable cost-effective, high-volume production. You will be responsible for ensuring that production lines are designed for scalability, efficiency, and precision, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability. This is a key role in Exoben’s efforts to industrialize and automate the manufacturing of advanced battery systems for global markets.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacturing Process Design & Optimization: Develop, design, and optimize manufacturing processes for large-scale battery assembly, focusing on reducing production time, increasing efficiency, and minimizing waste. Ensure that processes are scalable for mass production while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Automation & Robotics Integration: Design and implement automated manufacturing systems that leverage robotics, AI, and machine learning to streamline production. Collaborate with automation engineers to integrate robotics into the battery assembly process, focusing on precision, repeatability, and efficiency.
- Production Line Development: Lead the design and setup of battery production lines, including equipment specification, layout planning, and workflow optimization. Ensure that production lines are capable of handling high-volume production while maintaining flexibility for product variations.
- Cost-Effective Manufacturing: Develop strategies to reduce production costs through process optimization, automation, and improved resource management. Implement lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste, reduce energy consumption, and improve overall efficiency.
- Quality Control Systems: Work closely with quality assurance teams to design and implement quality control systems that ensure product consistency and reliability at each stage of the manufacturing process. Integrate real-time monitoring and feedback systems to detect and address defects early in the production process.
- Process Automation: Collaborate with process automation teams to develop fully automated manufacturing workflows, focusing on high-precision tasks such as electrode coating, cell stacking, electrolyte filling, and module assembly. Use data analytics and machine learning to continuously improve automated processes.
- Production Scalability: Ensure that manufacturing processes are scalable from pilot-scale production to full-scale commercial manufacturing, taking into account changes in volume, product design, and market demand.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead continuous improvement efforts by identifying inefficiencies in the manufacturing process, troubleshooting bottlenecks, and implementing solutions that improve production speed, accuracy, and overall productivity.
- Tooling & Equipment Design: Work with equipment suppliers to design and develop custom tools and machinery required for battery production. Ensure that all tools and equipment are optimized for high-volume, automated production and that they meet safety and performance standards.
- Material Handling & Logistics: Design efficient material handling systems to ensure the smooth flow of raw materials, components, and finished products throughout the production process. Collaborate with logistics teams to optimize storage, transportation, and supply chain management.
- Workforce Training & Development: Develop training programs for production line staff to ensure that they are proficient in operating automated systems and maintaining production quality. Lead efforts to build a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting advanced manufacturing processes.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all manufacturing processes and equipment comply with safety regulations and industry standards, including ISO certifications, OSHA guidelines, and other relevant regulations. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols to protect workers and equipment.
- Sustainability & Energy Efficiency: Implement sustainable manufacturing practices by reducing energy consumption, recycling waste materials, and minimizing the environmental impact of production. Develop energy-efficient processes that align with Exoben’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
- Production Data Analysis: Use production data and analytics tools to monitor performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions for process improvements. Use statistical analysis and predictive modeling to forecast production performance and optimize resource allocation.
- Collaboration with R&D Teams: Work closely with R&D teams to ensure that new battery designs can be manufactured efficiently at scale. Provide feedback on the manufacturability of new products and collaborate on process development for new materials and technologies.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and production reports. Present findings and recommendations to internal teams, management, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on large-scale production and process automation. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, particularly in high-volume production environments such as battery manufacturing, automotive, or electronics. Experience with automation and robotics in production lines is highly desirable.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation systems, and robotics integration. Experience with battery production processes, including electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and module integration, is a major advantage.
- Automation & Robotics Knowledge: Proficiency in the design and implementation of automated production systems, including robotics, AI, and machine learning technologies. Experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and industrial automation platforms is a plus.
- Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma: Expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process optimization methodologies. Experience in identifying inefficiencies and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and quality.
- Quality Assurance & Process Control: Strong knowledge of quality assurance practices, including statistical process control (SPC), failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis (RCA). Experience in implementing real-time quality monitoring and control systems.
- Project Management: Proven experience managing large-scale manufacturing projects, including planning, budgeting, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. Ability to manage timelines and deliverables in a fast-paced production environment.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot production issues, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective solutions.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, with a focus on large-scale production and automation.
- Industry Expertise: Extensive experience in battery manufacturing or related industries, with a focus on large-scale automation, robotics, and high-volume production.
- Automation Certifications: Relevant certifications in automation systems, robotics, or Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt).
- Sustainability Focus: A strong commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices, with experience in energy-efficient production processes and reducing the environmental impact of large-scale manufacturing.
