Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Scientist to join our analytics and engineering teams. In this role, you will use big data analytics to optimize battery performance, predict failure modes, and enhance lifecycle management. You will be responsible for analyzing large datasets generated from battery testing, production, and field performance to extract actionable insights that guide design improvements and operational efficiencies. Your work will directly contribute to the optimization of Exoben’s battery systems, leading to longer battery life, reduced costs, and improved sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:
- Battery Performance Data Analysis: Analyze extensive datasets generated from battery testing, performance monitoring, and field applications to identify trends, anomalies, and performance indicators. Use statistical methods and machine learning models to optimize battery design and operation.
- Predictive Maintenance & Failure Mode Prediction: Develop predictive models to forecast battery degradation, identify failure modes, and optimize maintenance schedules. Use data to predict when and how batteries are likely to fail, allowing for proactive intervention and improved product reliability.
- Lifecycle Optimization: Use data analytics to optimize the lifecycle of batteries, including charge/discharge cycles, energy density management, and thermal behavior. Provide insights to improve battery longevity while maintaining high performance across varied applications.
- Manufacturing Process Optimization: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to analyze data from production processes. Identify inefficiencies, optimize process parameters, and improve yield and consistency. Use real-time data analytics to ensure quality control and reduce production defects.
- Battery Design Improvement: Provide data-driven insights to the R&D team to enhance battery designs. Analyze test data to recommend modifications to material composition, cell architecture, or other design elements that improve performance, safety, and efficiency.
- Machine Learning & AI Implementation: Develop and apply machine learning algorithms to analyze battery performance data, optimize system parameters, and predict future performance under different conditions. Use AI to identify hidden patterns in large datasets that can guide future battery innovations.
- Thermal & Electrical Behavior Modeling: Analyze data related to the thermal and electrical behavior of battery cells during operation. Identify strategies to improve thermal management, reduce energy losses, and enhance overall battery safety.
- Data Visualization & Reporting: Create clear and insightful data visualizations, reports, and dashboards to communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Present results to R&D teams, management, and external partners, translating complex data into actionable recommendations.
- Real-Time Monitoring Systems: Design and implement real-time data monitoring systems that track battery health and performance in operational environments. Use these systems to provide continuous feedback for optimizing battery management systems (BMS) and improving product durability.
- Field Data Integration: Analyze performance data from deployed battery systems in the field to validate lab results, refine predictive models, and optimize designs for real-world conditions.
- Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with engineers, battery chemists, production managers, and software developers to integrate data-driven insights into the design, manufacturing, and optimization processes.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in both the battery production process and performance management by developing new analytical models and optimizing existing ones. Use data-driven approaches to innovate new battery management strategies.
- Data Infrastructure Development: Collaborate with IT and software teams to design and maintain data storage, collection, and processing systems that ensure the integrity, security, and scalability of Exoben’s data analytics platform.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with a focus on sustainable manufacturing and environmental management.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in environmental engineering or sustainable manufacturing, preferably in the energy storage, battery, or related industries. Experience in implementing recycling and green manufacturing strategies is highly desirable.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of sustainable manufacturing practices, lifecycle assessments (LCA), environmental impact assessments (EIA), and waste management techniques. Experience in green chemistry, emissions control, and water conservation strategies.
- Recycling & Waste Management: Expertise in designing and implementing recycling systems for battery materials and managing hazardous waste. Experience in developing end-of-life management strategies for batteries or electronic products.
- Environmental Regulations: Deep knowledge of local, national, and international environmental regulations and standards. Proven ability to ensure regulatory compliance in manufacturing and recycling operations.
- Process Optimization: Proficiency in optimizing manufacturing processes to reduce waste, energy consumption, and emissions. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and energy-efficient technologies.
- Sustainability Reporting: Experience in collecting, analyzing, and reporting environmental performance data. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations for improvement.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and influence internal and external stakeholders. Ability to clearly communicate complex sustainability initiatives to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify environmental risks and implement effective solutions to improve sustainability performance.
- Project Management: Demonstrated experience in managing environmental projects, including planning, execution, and reporting. Proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree: Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, with a focus on energy storage or battery performance optimization.
- Industry Experience: Extensive experience in the energy storage industry, particularly in the analysis of large datasets generated by battery testing, manufacturing, or field performance.
- AI & Machine Learning Expertise: Proven experience in deploying AI and machine learning models to optimize battery designs, predict failures, or improve manufacturing processes. Experience with neural networks, reinforcement learning, or other advanced techniques is highly valued.
- Big Data Platform Expertise: Experience with managing and analyzing large-scale datasets using big data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, or cloud-based solutions like AWS or Google Cloud.
