Job Description:
Exoben is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated systems that will streamline and enhance our lithium and sodium extraction processes. You will play a critical role in driving operational efficiency by integrating robotics, sensors, and control systems into our operations. Your contributions will help ensure that Exoben’s resource extraction and processing technologies are not only efficient but also scalable and environmentally sustainable. The Automation Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, mechanical engineers, and data scientists, to develop state-of-the-art solutions for our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Automation Systems Development: Design and implement advanced automation systems, including robotics and control systems, to optimize the precision, speed, and efficiency of lithium and sodium extraction processes.
- Robotics Integration: Develop and deploy robotic solutions to automate manual tasks within the extraction and refining processes, focusing on improving accuracy, reducing human intervention, and increasing safety.
- Control Systems Design: Design and implement real-time control systems, including PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, to monitor and control various stages of the extraction process.
- Process Optimization: Collaborate with process engineers to automate and optimize existing extraction and refining processes, minimizing energy consumption, reducing waste, and improving overall operational efficiency.
- Sensor Systems & Data Collection: Integrate sensor systems into automated equipment to monitor variables such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and chemical compositions in real-time, ensuring accurate control and decision-making.
- System Integration: Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of automated systems with other production processes, ensuring compatibility and system-wide efficiency.
- Predictive Maintenance & Monitoring: Implement predictive maintenance systems using machine learning algorithms and data analytics to identify potential equipment failures before they occur, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
- Simulation & Testing: Use simulation tools to model and test automated systems before deployment, ensuring that they meet performance expectations and can handle real-world conditions.
- Safety Systems: Develop and implement safety protocols and fail-safes within automated systems to ensure that human operators and equipment are protected from accidents or system malfunctions.
- Project Management: Lead automation projects from conception through implementation, managing timelines, budgets, and resources while ensuring all project milestones are met.
- Continuous Improvement: Analyze system performance and feedback, identifying areas for improvement and implementing system upgrades to enhance overall extraction efficiency and scalability.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including system designs, operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides, and present findings and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all automated systems comply with industry standards and regulations, particularly regarding safety, environmental sustainability, and data security.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing automation systems, particularly in industrial settings, such as mining, manufacturing, or resource extraction.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of automation technologies, including PLCs, SCADA systems, robotics, and sensor integration. Experience with control systems, robotics programming, and industrial automation software (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, or ABB platforms).
- Robotics & Control Systems: Experience in designing and deploying robotic systems for automated processes, as well as control systems for managing real-time operations in an industrial environment.
- Process Optimization: Proven track record of optimizing industrial processes through automation, with a focus on increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving safety.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in automation and robotics (e.g., Python, C++, Ladder Logic) and familiarity with industrial protocols like Modbus, EtherCAT, and PROFIBUS.
- Collaboration Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and collaborate with engineers, scientists, and operators.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in automation systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree: Master’s or PhD in Automation Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Industry Expertise: Significant experience in the mining or resource extraction industries, particularly in lithium or sodium mining, with a focus on automating extraction processes.
- Simulation Software: Experience with industrial simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW) for modeling, testing, and validating automation systems.
- AI & Machine Learning: Experience in applying machine learning techniques to predictive maintenance, system optimization, or process control.
- Industry Certifications: Professional certifications in automation engineering (e.g., Certified Automation Professional – CAP) or robotics.
